Located just 20 miles southeast of Montgomery in Mathews, off highway 82, lies the scenic Dixie Trap & Gun Club. Established in 1985, this family-operated business, owned by Bill and Becky Parson Jr., sprawls across 132 acres of picturesque landscape.

Facilities and Activities:

  • Shooting Sports: Open to the public, they offer activities like trap, wobble, skeet, and sporting clays. Those interested in pistol and rifle ranges can avail annual memberships.
  • Clubhouse: A spacious 2400 square foot clubhouse is well-equipped with amenities including restrooms, kitchen, dining and lounge areas, and a big screen TV.
  • Pro Shop: Their on-site pro shop is stocked with shotgun shells, reloading supplies, targets, cleaning supplies, and other shooting accessories.
  • Event Hosting: From meetings to shooting events, they’re prepared to host a variety of gatherings, with catering options available upon prior notification.
  • Camping: 40 RV campsites are available, complete with water and electricity.

Special Mention: Dixie Trap & Gun Club is proud to have hosted the annual Alabama State Trapshooting Championships and even got featured on the daytime TV show “Absolutely Alabama” in 2015.

Additional Information on Trap Shooting: For those new to trap shooting, it’s governed by the ATA, which stands for the Amateur Trapshooting Association. The club has 7 trap fields, equipped with Pat Trap machines and Canterbury Voice release systems. Pricing varies for members and non-members. First-timers enjoy member pricing for the day. They also offer shotgun rentals and lessons for newcomers. While 12 ga. shotguns are commonly used, smaller gauges and field guns are welcome. Safety is a priority, with eye and hearing protection being mandatory, available at the clubhouse.
